Rarely have the words “four-dispenser vehicle gas bar” caused so much excitement.

After years of complaining that there is no gas station in the city’s south end, it looks like one is on the way.

A proposal is in the works to place a gas station, convenience store and car wash just east of the Clair Road/Gordon Street intersection.

It would go at 32 Clair Rd. E., between the LCBO store and the bank in the plaza on the northeast corner of the intersection.

The proposal is currently in the site plan approval stage and the owner of the plaza, Choice Properties, is seeking some bylaw relief to allow for a smaller waiting area for the car wash and some minor setback variances.

“The applicant is proposing to build a four-dispenser vehicle gas bar with a 112-square-metre convenience store and a 116-square-metre automatic car wash,” says the application heading to the city’s committee of adjustment on Oct. 25.

Mayor Cam Guthrie took to Twitter to announce the gas station’s arrival on Friday. The mayor said there was also a proposal for a second one in the south end in the works. Currently there are no gas stations between the Shell at Kortright Road/Gordon Street and the ones in Aberfoyle.
