NEWS RELEASE
GUELPH WELLINGTON HEALTH COALITION
*************************
In one of the world’s richest nations, where Universal health care is the only social program enshrined in law, in the Canada Health Act of 1984, and where essential services are guaranteed for a healthy state of life for every Canadian, it is a screaming issue today that our health care has devolved to a competitive industry without fearful regard for a patient’s best outcome.

Every day we hear stories from around the province of requests for cash or credit for services rendered in laboratories and clinics, hallway medicine and extra fees charged by some physicians, long waits and neglect of mental health.

Many cities experienced restructured hospitals and rural areas experienced assimilation into regional authorities or closure, reducing service availability.
Centralized Home Care turned into several contracted privatised service providers. Rarely does their budget meet demand. Issues of continuity and standardized care are frequent.

RNs, RPNs and support staff work precariously. Beds were cut. Hospital wings closed. The Ontario labs were closed when they were in the black.

Could Guelph be experiencing any of these problems? Did you get fed up along the journey? We want to offer an evening to vent your disappointment in the system.

Please join us Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. at 10c Shared Space, 42 Carden Street. Your story is important to us.
