NEWS RELEASE
GUELPH HUMANE SOCIETY
********************************
The Guelph Humane Society (GHS) is once again taking part in the Great Canadian Giving Challenge this June, and supporters can help GHS win the grand prize by donating via CanadaHelps.org throughout the month. For every $1 donated, GHS will be entered for a chance to win $20,000!

GHS has set a goal of raising $25,000 this month, which will give them 25,000 chances to win the grand prize.

“We are trying something different this year,” says Jennifer Fraser, donor relations manager at GHS. “We have so many essential programs at GHS that most people don’t even know about. So each week in June we will feature a different fund that positively impacts our community, and allow people to donate directly to that fund. You have the choice to donate to the fund that you’re most passionate about.”

The funds that GHS will feature throughout the Great Canadian Giving Challenge this month are:
    •    GHS Cares Fund: a newly established umbrella fund that encompasses many unique programs that invest in the unique bond between animals and humans. These programs include: emergency boarding, subsidized camp fees, low-cost spay/neuter clinics, and pets in transition – a program that offers temporary emergency foster placement and care for the pets of women seeking shelter from domestic violence, as well as individuals who are hospitalized for mental health and addiction treatment.
    •    Duke’s Fund: established in 1995, Duke’s Fund provides emergency and specialized medical care for the animals who need it most.
    •    Highest Priority Needs: a fund that allows GHS to put money where it is needed the most at any given time to provide hope, care and compassion to vulnerable animals in our care.
    •    Building Fund: with $1 million left to go from the original $10 million goal, any donations made to this fund will help close the funding gap on the new GHS building at 190 Hanlon Creek Blvd.

GHS Cares will be the first fund focused on to start the month. And thanks to the generosity of the Hodge Family, the first $2,000 donated online from June 1-7 will be matched.

“We are so grateful to the Hodge Family for matching donations this week,” adds Fraser. “If someone decides to donate $25 this week, not only will that get GHS 25 chances to win the $20,000 prize – but it will also equal $50 for the animals in our care. Donations made this week will have such a far-reaching impact.”

The Great Canadian Giving Challenge was first introduced in 2015 as a way to increase donations during a typically slow time of year, and the Challenge has continued to grow since. To be included in the Challenge, donations must be made via canadahelps.org, and a minimum $3 donation is required. The contest runs June 1 until June 30.

GHS has created a canadahelps.org donation form right on their website, so to learn more about the Great Canadian Giving Challenge, and to support GHS, visit the website.
