Homeowner faces arson charge after Fergus fire

A woman rescued from a burning Fergus home hours after her husband had been charged with child pornography in January has now been charged with arson.

Wellington County OPP said Mary Jane Curry, 65, appeared in Guelph bail court Thursday.

Firefighters rescued Curry from a home on Union Street on Jan. 25, just two hours after 71-year-old Paul Douglas Curry of the same address had been arrested by OPP on child porn charges.

She appeared in Guelph Bail Court on March 10, 2016.You may be eligible for a reward from Crime Stoppers of up to $2,000.

Paul Douglas Curry was charged with two counts of possession of child pornography, one count of accessing child pornography and one count of making child pornography available.

Fire crews were called to the home two hours after OPP had wrapped up their investigation into the child porn case.

Mary Jane Curry was rescued by firefighters and taken to hospital in serious condition at the time. A firefighter was also taken to hospital due to heat exaustion but later released.
