On Nov. 12 Guelph City Council will try and break a deadlock on on a six-storey condominium being proposed for the Gordon Street/Lowes Road intersection.

Last month's vote on the proposal, which calls for an 86-unit condominium on the southwest corner of the intersection, was tied 6-6, a "non-decision" made possible when councillor Leanne Piper was absent due to illness.

(Voting in favour of the development as proposed: Christine Billings, Cathy Downer, Dan Gibson, Mike Salisbury, Cam Guthrie, Mark MacKinnon; Against: June Hofland, Dominique O'Rourke, Bob Bell, James Gordon, Rodrigo Goller, Phil Allt; Absent: Leanne Piper).

The exact same proposal, which again comes with a staff recommendation that it be approved, comes to the planning meeting of city council on Monday night.

Many residents of the area have been active and vocal in their opposition to the project, citing traffic, sightline and incompatible concerns among others.

That led to Mayor Cam Guthrie going on Twitter and calling last month's vote a win for "NIMBYism."

The development is a Reid's Heritage Home project. It was originally planned for 102 units before later being downsized. Three zoning amendments are needed for the project to move forward to city council's end-of-the-month meeting for final approval.

Delegates have until Nov. 8 to register.
