Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health said it is preparing to open its booking system for Monday following the announcement from Ontario Premier Doug Ford that expanded eligibility for the booster doses would begin Monday for everyone 18 years and older.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford made the announcement on accelerated booster shots today in an effort to combat the more contagious Omicron variant, pulling the initial window of Jan. 4 to Dec. 22.
On Monday anyone 18 years or older can book their third dose three months (84 days) after the second dose.
"Local residents 18 plus will be eligible Monday at the same time the provincial system opens, and in the coming days we will be announcing new capacity for additional bookings of appointments," said Danny Williamson, communications specialist with WDG Public Health.
Williamson said the details are being finalized and a full update on how Public Health will roll out the boosters, and what types of clinics and the number should be released in the coming days.
"In the press conference, the premier kind of gave his urging for 50 plus to get it before the eligibility changes, so we try and always align, even though we don't book on the provincial system, we try and align who is eligible and when they are eligible with whats going on in the province and that keeps the message clear and clean," said Williamson.
