Impaired charge laid after driver runs stop sign

A Guelph man was charged with impaired driving after he was seen running a stop sign Sunday morning.

Approximately 5:45 a.m., a Guelph police officer was patrolling on Fife Road near Elmira Road South when he observed a vehicle drive through a stop sign. The vehicle made a wide turn into the oncoming lane and almost struck the curb before swerving back into the proper lane.

A traffic stop was conducted and the driver found to have an odour of alcoholic beverage on his breath and glassy eyes. He was arrested and transported to the police station, where testing confirmed he had more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

A 21-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving, driving without a licence and novice driver having alcohol in his system. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was seized for seven days.
