In the Night City (36 photos)

Exploring Guelph under cover of darkness

A city changes in the night — a lot.

The colours, the shadows, the general mood and purpose of the place shifts.

Buildings that bustle in the daytime, sleep at night. Most stores close, and people congregate around the few that remain open.

Far less people venture out into parks and backstreets, as though there is an implication, a suspicion that they are unsafe, or that the act of being out at night is somehow a questionable thing to be doing, especially alone.

Out on a city night there is usually light enough to see by, and light enough for a camera — often set to expose for a few seconds — to capture the unusual, mysterious, eerie and beautiful scenes in the night city.

It is an intriguing, nervy, and adventuresome experience.
