It took a mere 30 minutes for an upcoming Guelph performance by Canadian music legend Jim Cuddy to sell out, though the audience is intentionally being kept rather small.
Cuddy, of Blue Rodeo fame, is slated to perform Oct. 2 during a celebration event in honour of Fixed Gear Brewing Company’s third anniversary.
“We missed our second anniversary because of the lockdown last year and we wanted a morale booster, something to genuinely give back to the community,” said Mike Oosterveld, Fixed Gear Brewing’s founder and president, said of what inspired the event.
“Our hope is to have something really special. … What better than a Canadian icon?”
The event, An Intimate Evening with Jim Cuddy, will also feature a number of the craft brewery’s creations, including some new recipes and small-batch brews, Oosterveld said.
Tickets went on sale at noon on Monday and sold out within 30 minutes, though only 80 people can be safely distanced within the brewery’s Edinburgh Road location known as 'The Canteen' for the performance.
“It’s a very small venue, relative to what Jim’s used to playing,” Oosterveld said, noting that’s what makes the experience rather intimate. “We’re hoping to have good dialogue, good conversation. I think he’s the kind of guy who warms up to that sort of thing.”
