WELLINGTON COUNTY - On Jan. 18, 2017 Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received numerous reports of unlocked vehicles being entered overnight in Guelph-Eramosa Township, The Town of Erin and Fergus. 

Last weekend five youth were arrested in the Town of Erin for entering vehicles. These thefts are a crime of opportunity and the key to protecting your vehicle is in your hands. 

Here are some tips to prevent you from becoming a victim:

  • Always roll up your vehicle’s windows, lock the doors
  • Never leave your vehicle unattended while it is running
  • If you have a garage, use it and lock the door as well as your vehicle
  • Never leave your car keys in plain view or in an easily accessible area
  • Always park your vehicle in a well-lit area
  • Never leave valuable objects or packages in full view.  Put them in the trunk

Keep yourself from becoming an easy target by simply securing your vehicle – Lock it or Lose it. If you see suspicious activity or behaviour around your vehicle or neighbourhood, report it.
