Late rally not enough for Guelph Storm

SARNIA – The Sarnia Sting scored three goals in a span of 5:55 of the second period to fuel a 5-4 win over the Guelph Storm Wednesday.

The Storm trailed 5-2 heading into the third period, but Ryan Merkley scored a pair of goals, the last one coming with 1:10 left in the period, to make it close.

Isaac Ratcliffe had Guelph’s other two goals.

Givani Smith failed on a first period penalty shot for the Storm.

Liam Herbst made 21 saves in the Storm net. Aidan Hughes made 45 for Sarnia.

Guelph plays a pair of home games this weekend, Friday night against Owen Sound and Sunday afternoon against the Kingston Frontenacs.
