Calling all creators, inventors and curious people! The Guelph Public Library is excited to announce the grand opening of the new Makerspace in our Westminster Square Branch! Everyone is invited to the official ribbon cutting ceremony at Westminster Square Branch (100-31 Farley Drive) on Friday, Feb. 14, 2020, at 11 a.m.
There is a lot to discover in this community Makerspace. Enjoy the following hands-on technologies and resources:
- 3D printers
- a Glowforge® 3D laser cutter
- a Cricut® machine
- a computerized embroidery machine
- a holographic projector
- robotics including Ozobots and Cubelets
- a gaming room with a Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch and an Oculus Go
- computers with Adobe Creative Suite software including Photoshop and Premiere Elements
- a sound and video recording room including equipment and editing software
- a digitizing station with a photo and film scanner plus a VHS to digital file converter for all your family videos and photo albums
“This Makerspace is for everyone!” shares Westminster Square Branch Supervisor Michelle Campbell. “Libraries are changing. We are moving away from places where you consume to places where you create. A lot of this equipment is not affordable for most people to purchase so visit your library to try it out and learn a new skill. Technology is always changing and this too is the role of the library to provide cutting edge technology that you can try out for free.”
