Local schools will remain open on Friday despite CUPE staff going on strike, board officials confirm.

The Upper Grand District School Board will continue with its contingency plans, a Thursday news release said. UGDSB schools will be business as usual on Friday. There will be impacts to its adult ESL classes and community use of schools.

Wellington Catholic District School Board locations will also remain open, as will its before and after school programs.

After Friday, if it becomes unreasonable for WCDSB to remain open due to health and safety concerns, its schools may be closed, as stated in a previous news release.

As for the UGDSB, it will be difficult to remain open without CUPE caretakers and maintenance staff, as stated in a previous press release.
