Guelph's Skyjack Inc. has been fined $100,000 as a result of a workplace injury in 2019.

In a news release, the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development says the incident happened on Dec. 12, 2019, at the Woodlawn Road plant.

"A worker suffered serious burns resulting from a spark from the welding process. The employer should have provided apparel sufficient to protect the worker from injury," says the news release.

Skyjack pleaded guilty in court and was fined $100,000, plus a 25 per cent victim fine surcharge.

According to the facts presented by the ministry, the certified welder was welding when a spark from the welding process fell into the pocket of the worker’s denim apron, resulting in the worker’s clothing catching fire.

"The denim apron and coveralls that the worker was wearing were found to have several failures," said the news release.
