After years of working within the music industry, a local artist is developing a business to help new and upcoming artists.

Antha Lee has been a part of the Guelph music scene for a number of years, but during the pandemic, she is learning more about the business aspect of the music industry to launch Tauremini Productions, which would provide production help and design services to those just starting their careers.

She says her aim is to launch the business in 2021.

“I know firsthand the years that go into learning and knowing where to go for the different production stuff.” says Lee, “I’d like to be that middleman that helps them and gives them the knowledge that they need, so that they don’t have to spend years and years building up themselves.”

Six years ago, Lee began working with local hip hop artist Robbie G, who helped her develop her EP. From there, she learned how to record and produce music from home and created her first album, Olive Branches, in Nov. 2019.

Lee says technology has created new opportunities for aspiring artists to launch their careers compared to when she first started in the industry.

“It’s so much easier for people to become artists. I see so many opportunities now-a-days, especially since phones have so many capabilities.” says Lee. “My goal is to go to these shows where younger artists are starting off and scout for them and show them what I can help them with.”

While taking a break from performing during the pandemic, Lee has started providing services to one young artist by helping to design merch.

“I’ve been using the time during COVID as more of an opportunity to take a step back from the music to work more on the business aspect," she says, "So hopefully when COVID lifts, we can go back to performing.”

Along with working on Tauremini Productions, Lee will also continue to produce new music.

Since the pandemic started, Lee says she has produced three new songs. Her latest single, released on Oct. 4, is called “Can’t Keep Up," a song about the challenges of finding love and developing a romantic relationship during the pandemic.

Lee is also in the process working on a fourth new song, which is set to be released this month. To learn more about Antha Lee, check out her Facebook page.
