An incident at Guelph CVI high school that involved a report of a weapon has ended.

Police tweeted at approximately 2:45 that there was an investigation happening "near the intersection of Paisley Street and Yorkshire Street North." It resulted in the school being locked down and a large police presence.

Parents were advised not to pick up their children.

The police tactical unit was called to the scene.

"The situation is contained but residents are asked to avoid the area. More information will be provided when available," said the police tweet.

Approximately 45 minutes after the first tweet, police reported that the incident was over and students were allowed to leave the school.

"We had reports of a person with a weapon in the area of the school, which was searched to ensure safety. One person has been detained for further investigation," tweeted police spokesperson Scott Tracey.

This storey will be updated.
