Long-term parking at Guelph General Hospital now much cheaper

Province has introduced new rules on long-term parking

Long-term parking at Guelph General Hospital has gotten cheaper.

The province has implemented new rules that require hospitals that charge more than $10 per day for parking to offer discounted passes.

Guelph General Hospital parking will go from $12 per day to offering five day passes for $35; 10 day passes for $70 and 30 day passes for $210 – all averaging $7 a day. The passes are for 24-hour access lots.

The new rates took effect on Oct. 1.

Other changes to the long-term parking include making the parking purchased transferrable among amongst patients, caregivers and their vehicles, provide in-and-out service over a 24 hour period, are valid for consecutive or non-consecutive days and are good for one year from date of purchase.

About 900,000 patients and visitors per year across Ontario — including 135,000 seniors — are expected to benefit from reduced parking fees.

“This announcement reinforces our government’s commitment to help ensure that high parking fees will not be a barrier for patients and their loved ones who have to access hospitals often. Patients and their families in Guelph can now benefit from reduced hospital parking fees,” said Guelph MPP Liz Sandals in a press release.

“When dealing with a health issue, patients and their families should not have the added burden of worrying about the high cost of parking when they go to the hospital. That is why, effective October 1, hospitals will now offer discounted parking passes to frequent visitors. This is part of our government’s commitment to putting patients first and making our health care system more accessible to all,” said Minister of Health and Long-Term Care Dr. Eric Hoskins in the same release.
