Man in wheelchair was victim in fatal south end collision

The victim of a fatal pedestrian/car collision Thursday night was a 63-year-old man in a wheelchair.

Guelph Police are looking for witnesses to the incident, which happened at approximately 6 p.m. on Gordon Street, just south of Poppy Drive.

Police said the Guelph resident was operating a motorized wheelchair northbound in the southbound curb lane of Gordon Street.

The wheelchair came into collision with a 2005 Ford Taurus that was travelling southbound in the southbound curb lane. That car was operated by a 45-year-old Burlington male.

The 63-year-old victim was transported to Guelph General Hospital in critical condition where he died at around 7 p.m. The driver of the Ford Taurus did not suffer any injuries, police said.

Gordon Street was closed between Clair Road and Maltby Road for approximately five hours as police conducted their investigation.
