Mayor Cam Guthrie and Village Media CEO Jeff Elgie officially launched GuelphToday Monday at an informal event held at Planet Bean in downtown Guelph.

"It's great to have GuelphToday as part of the community and it's great to have quality journalism in the city that covers both sides of the story," Guthrie said at the official ribbon cutting ceremony.

The event included free coffee for those stopping in, courtesy of GuelphToday.

While officially launched over two months ago, Monday was the official kick-off. Elgie was joined by Village Media community development representative Justus Veldman and head of advertising Andrew Auger.

Newly-hired director of advertising Liz O'Donnell and reporter/photographer Tony Saxon were also on hand to greet, meet and chat about GuelphToday.

The online news portal has quickly become Guelph's go-to site for interesting and breaking news.
