Mayor Cam Guthrie is no longer a co-owner of the Guelph Royals.

Conflict of interest concerns regarding being a co-owner of the team and the City of Guelph budget discussions and decisions have led to Guthrie stepping out of the Royals' picture.

He made the announcement just prior to the beginning of final budget deliberations on Tuesday afternoon.

Guthrie teamed up with businessman Shawn Fuller last September to announce they were purchasing the team from Jim Rooney.

Rooney ceased operations midway through the 2017 Intercounty Baseball League season.

Guthrie said he had to put the city budget deliberations at the top of his priorities and had informed Fuller he was stepping out of the ownership picture.

He said he will continue to be a big supporter of the team, but will not have any pecuniary interest.
