Mayor Cam Guthrie wants the city to phase out the use of all single-use plastic beverage containers at all city owned facilities and parks.

The recommendation from the mayor will be presented to city council at its May 6 committee of the whole meeting.

The elimination of single-use plastic beverage containers would be phased in over a three-year period

The same recommendation also calls for the phasing out of purchasing by the city of all single-use plastics, including straws and plastic bags, at city facilities.

Installing and promoting water filling stations or reusable water bottle vending machines at busier city facilities and parks is also being recommended by the mayor.

The recommendation also wants the city to engage with people and businesses about reducing or eliminating single-use plastics and packaging throughout the city.
