UPPER GRAND DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD

Denise Heaslip, an educator with 20 years of experience in the Upper Grand District School Board, has been appointed as Superintendent of Education effective September 1, 2016.

She replaces Superintendent Linda Benallick, who retires August 26, 2016.

As the Superintendent for elementary schools in Dufferin and East Wellington, Heaslip will oversee the operation of 21 schools with 36 principals and vice-principals, and assume numerous portfolio responsibilities including Summer Learning Program, Research Committee, Elementary Leadership Group, and the Early Years Lead.

Currently an Assistant Superintendent on a temporary basis, Heaslip is responsible for 25 elementary schools in Dufferin, East Wellington, and the town of Fergus.

She began her teaching career in the Upper Grand DSB at Grand Valley District Public School in 1997. Her vice-principal assignments were at Primrose ES and Centennial Hylands ES.

Since 2006, Heaslip worked as a principal at Centennial Hylands ES (2006-2010), Hyland Heights ES (2011-2014) and Spencer Avenue ES (2014-2015).

Heaslip has a Bachelor of Education from York University and a Master of Education with a Major in Curriculum from the University of Toronto. She has a strong interest in program, early literacy, and school improvement planning.

Denise and her husband raised their family and have resided in Dufferin County for over thirty years.

About the Upper Grand District School Board

The Upper Grand District School Board serves approximately 34,000 students through 65 elementary schools and 12 secondary schools in the City of Guelph, County of Wellington and County of Dufferin.

Student success is the goal of over 3,000 dedicated teaching and support staff who are aided by the contributions of caring volunteers and community partners.
