Midland man crashes sedan

Charges of drive while impaired by drugs and alcohol, driving without a license and possession of drugs ensue

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON - On Sept. 4, 2019, at approximately 1 a.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a grey sedan involved in a single-vehicle collision on Wellington Road 18 near Belwood. Officers attended and found the lone occupant, the driver, unharmed.

While speaking with the driver, officers formed the opinion that the driver was impaired by a combination of alcohol and drugs. The driver was arrested and brought to a local OPP operations centre for further testing conducted by a Drug Recognition Expert (D.R.E.).

Further investigation revealed that the car was stolen from the City of Guelph on Sept. 4, 2019. Investigators also located a quantity of methamphetamine and open liquor in the vehicle. The driver was unlicensed.

As a result of the investigation, Michael David York, 32-years-old of Midland, has been charged with Impaired Operation, Possession of Methamphetamine, Having Open Liquor in a motor vehicle Drive no Licence, and Possession of Stolen Property under $5,000.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph on Oct. 11, 2019.

If you suspect someone is driving while their ability to operate a motor vehicle is impaired, either by drug or alcohol, call police at 911 to report it.
