On Wednesday, Dec.18, 2019 at 7 a.m., the Guelph Fire Department responded to a reported fire at 747 Paisley Road. Firefighters arrived at the scene and found smoke in unit 214.

The fire was out upon our arrival. Some remaining embers were extinguished by fire crews. The apartment was ventilated to remove any remaining smoke.

A 50-year-old male sustained burns to his hand and suffered smoke inhalation. He was treated at the scene by paramedics.

Guelph Fire investigators found the cause of the fire to be a candle that came in contact with a mattress. An estimate of damage is still under investigation.

The Guelph Fire Department would like to thank Guelph Police Services and Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Services for their assistance.
