Archeological efforts have unearthed eight distinct bone fragments at the Baker Street parking lot since work began there earlier this month, states a city news release.

In addition, 15 grave site locations have been identified and will be investigated for potential remains there as well.

Once the archeological clearance work is completed – something that’s needed for the Baker District redevelopment project to move ahead next spring – all remains found will be documented and reinterred at Woodlawn Memorial Park cemetery.

The parking lot was closed at the end of September in order to allow for the archeological work to get underway.

Used as a cemetery for 26 years, the triangular block that is the currently Baker Street municipal parking lot was the site of an all-faith cemetery from 1827 to 1853.
