ENVIRONMENT CANADA
***********************
Heat Warning in effect for:
    •    Guelph - Erin - Southern Wellington County
    •    Kitchener - Cambridge - Region of Waterloo

Humidex values reaching 43 are expected.

The extreme heat event will continue through Thursday. This will be the most significant heat event in the past few years.

A cold front is forecast to pass through southern Ontario this afternoon ushering in a slightly cooler and less humid air mass. However, daytime highs in the low 30s will continue Tuesday through Thursday. Humidex values will be in the mid 30s on Tuesday, and near 40 for Wednesday and Thursday.

Overnight low temperatures are expected to be in the low 20s, except high teens in some rural areas, providing little or no relief from the heat.

A cool down is expected by Friday with the passage of a cold front.

Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.

Extreme heat affects everyone.

The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
