A Guelph psychotherapist had her licence suspended for two months after entering a plea of no contest on Thursday to professional misconduct allegations she twice failed to report a child in need of protection, as well as a record-keeping violation.

Suzanne Muscat, who was initially facing more than 100 allegations, entered the plea during a disciplinary hearing of the College of Registered Psychotherapists and Registered Mental Health Therapists of Ontario.

No reasoning for the decision is provided in the college’s posted notice of the disciplinary hearing’s outcome.

In addition to the licence suspension, Muscat was ordered to complete a professional ethics course within six months and to refrain from seeing clients under the age of 18 until she completes that course.

As well, her practice will be monitored for two years, involving quarterly meetings with her college-designated monitor, and incorporate any advice from that person into her practice.

The disciplinary actions are part of a joint submission by Muscat and a college lawyer to the discipline committee.
