North end roadwork prompts lane closures, full shutdowns possible

Continued project to upgrade Silvercreek Parkway North infrastructure between Woodlawn and Campbell roads

The continuation of a road improvement project in the city’s north end will see traffic cut off in one direction throughout the eight-week initiative, along with the potential for short-term full shutdowns.

The latest part of the ongoing Silvercreek Parkway North project – between Woodlawn and Campbell roads, north of Speedvale Avenue – is set to begin on Monday and continue for eight weeks or so.

There will be no northbound traffic allowed throughout the work timeframe, but southbound vehicles will be permitted most of the time.

“Construction activities may limit traffic speeds and movement. A short-term closure of a section of Silvercreek Parkway North may be required,” states a post on the city’s website. “Delays should be expected. Please follow posted signs for safety.”

Upgrading of existing underground infrastructure is planned, along with the installation of new curbing and multi-use paths. Bus stops along that stretch of road are also planned to be upgraded.

“Every effort will be made to maintain access to driveways in the construction area during working hours (7 a.m.–7 p.m.),” the city’s post notes. “Construction activities and equipment movement may temporarily impact access to private property.”

This is the continuation of a reconstruction effort that began last August along that stretch of road, confirmed deputy CAO Jayne Holmes.

“Please note that no work is being redone within this section of road and no additional funds are required,” she said via email.

Prior to the winter work stoppage, a cast iron watermain was replaced with a PVC version and part of a new wastewater sewer was added to increase capacity, along with road reconstruction and new curbs along the west side of the road.
