Ontario’s civic watchdog received seven complaints against the City of Guelph during the last fiscal year, and 80 complaints in total from within the riding.

“To respect complainant confidentiality … no specific details on these cases can be released to City of Guelph staff or the public,” states a city staff report released on Friday, which explains all files are closed and no formal investigations took place.

The general subject matter of complaints was listed in the city report, however.

Two complaints related to taxes/fees, while there was one complaint each related to bylaw enforcement, parking, parks/recreation/culture, planning/zoning/land use and public transit.

There were a total of 80 complaints filed regarding public services offered in the city, notes the ombudsman office’s annual report covering the year from April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021.

Among them were 15 against Guelph and Wellington County Family & Children Services, as well as six each against the University of Guelph and the Upper Grand District School Board. One complaint was made regarding Wellington Catholic District School Board.

Other complaints dealt with provincial ministries, conservation authorities and more.
