Police say no cause for concern to public safety regarding Thursday morning incident

Update: Guelph police issued the following statement Thursday afternoon:

On May 27, 2020 at 11:20 pm, Guelph Police attended to a residence on Hayes Avenue in the City of Guelph to check on the well being of the residents. Police located a male inside the residence deceased.  At this time the investigation is ongoing.  There is no concern to public safety.

Police say there is no cause for concern to public safety in regards to an ongoing investigation on Hayes Avenue.

Police were called to 70 Hayes Ave., a detatched home located near the Eramosa River between Stevenson Street and Victoria Road, just after midnight Thursday.

Around 11:30 a.m. a body was removed from the building.

Police and fire remained on the scene Thursday morning, with few details readily available.

At least one firefighter was seen wearing a hazmat suit and investigators were canvassing neighbours.

Firefighters were also seen tearing down exterior walls of the home.

The call for firefighters at the time was listed as an "assist other agencies" call.

Guelph paramedics were initially on the scene but have since left.

The gas and electricity company were called to the scene to cut utilities.
