A strike planned for 12:01 a.m. Friday at Ontario's community colleges has been averted.

The management bargaining team at the College Employer Council (CEC) announced late Thursday that it has reached an agreement to enter binding interest arbitration with professors, instructors, librarians and counsellors represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union.

"The strike that was scheduled to commence at 12:01 a.m. on March 18, 2022, is called off," CEC said in a statement issued jointly with OPSEU.

"This also includes all work-to-rule strike activities," the statement said.

Workload was cited as a key issue in dispute, as well as benefits for part-time faculty and contracting out faculty work.

OPSEU advised its members in January to reject a final offer from the colleges.
