Cancer robbed Addison hill of many things, but it never took away her hope, her zest for life or her smile.

The Elora teenager battled a rare form of cancer with dignity, using her story to help others, whether it be supporting other patients at SickKids Hospital or as part of fundraising efforts both locally and beyond.

“I just feel like there’s other kids who are going through worse than I am and I’m getting chemo to make me feel better so it’s killing the cancer,“ Addison said in a phone interview last winter from her Elora home.

She found a lump in her breast in the summer of 2021. A biopsy found it to be cancerous, specifically angiosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer that begins in the cells that line blood or lymph vessels.  

She succumbed in July, the day after a family-organized fundraiser raised thousands for cancer research, a fundraiser the family plans on continuing in her name moving forward.
