CENTRE WELLINGTON – Three hour parking limits in Centre Wellington’s downtown cores will continue into 2023.

A paragraph in a county police services report noted Centre Wellington staff “have notified the County that the downtown parking enforcement pilot will continue in 2023.”

This program saw three-hour time limits and some 15-minute spots in Downtown Elora and Fergus beginning in 2021 and expanded in 2022.

The township contracted Alpha Parking Solutions to handle enforcement from May 1 to Oct. 31, administered by the County of Wellington.

Data provided by county treasurer Ken DeHart showed there were 3,157 tickets issued by the contractor between May 1 to Oct. 31 in 2022.

Revenue data was only available up to Aug. 31 but the total for Centre Wellington tops over $60,000. The county takes an administrative fee which has totalled just under $16,000.

DeHart noted Wellington OPP can issue the parking tickets as well, including outside of the contractor’s May to October timeframe, but are not dedicated to full-time enforcement.

The police services report also noted the township will be “conducting a parking strategy that will inform a long-term/permanent solution for the township.”
