Health officials in Guelph are warning extremely potent blue/purple fentanyl has been reported in Guelph and may be the cause of five overdose reversals over the last week.

A health alert was issued Wednesday in regards to five reported overdose reversals in Guelph that occurred over the last week, as well as reports of blue/purple fentanyl, which may be causing the overdoses.

Recently, Guelph Police has said purple fentanyl can be as much as 100 times more potent that than fentanyl.

The alert is being shared on social media by Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health and the Wellington Guelph Drug Strategy.

To reduce risk of an overdose, the alert recommends never using alone, carrying a naloxone kit and going to the overdose prevention site at the Guelph Community Health Centre when using.

Naloxone is available at some pharmacies in Guelph, as well as at ARCH, Guelph Community Health Centre, Sanguen Health Centre and Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health on Chancellor’s Way.
