The owners of a newer commercial building on Woodlawn Road have applied for a zoning change that would convert most of the building to apartments.

The application would see commercial use on the bottom floor and 15 apartments on the top three floors of the four-storey building at at 9 Woodlawn Rd. E, which is just southeast of the Woodlawn/Woolwich Street intersection, across from the Canadian Tire plaza.

Building owner Mappi Ltd. has applied to change the zoning on the property from specialized service commercial one to specialized general apartment.

They say they have had trouble finding commercial tenants since the building was built in 2014.

"The interior will be renovated to accommodate this conversion, while the façade of the building will remain similar to its current state, but updated as required to accommodate adequate windows and ventilation for the residential units," says the application.

The building currently has 37 parking spaces, which will be reduced to 17 under the new proposal, 12 of those for residents and visitors, the rest for the commercial unit.

There would be an amenity area and fitness room on the main floor and an amenity area outside at the back, including a fenced-in dog run.

A public meeting on the application will be held at a later date.
