Paw-Pup event raises money for Guelph Humane Society (7 photos)

Paw prints in clay as a keepsake also raise funds for Guelph Humane Society

A pair of local businesses teamed up on a sweltering Saturday to raise some money for the Guelph Humane Society.

The Play With Clay Paw-Pup Dog Day event held at Park Grocery & Deli allowed people to bring their dogs and get a paw print keepsake on a piece of clay that would then be fired.

Halfway through the event saw 40 dogs sign up, making a $10 donation to the humane society. Anything over $10 and Park Grocery gave you a $10 gift certificate.

"Play With Clay and Park Grocery wanted to collaborate on something together and we came up with this pop-up event," said Galt Humane Society. We had about 90 dogs come through that day," Katie Goepen from Play With Clay.

She said it was a great way to promote a couple of businesses as well as raise money for a good cause.

"We did a dog day in Galt a couple of weeks ago at Monogram Coffee. It was a big hit, we raised about $1,000 for the Galt Humane Society," Goepen said.

Early in the event Park Grocery was also recognized for being a certified living wage employee, with Mayor Cam Guthrie and MPP MIke Schreiner on hand to congratulate Park Grocery's Court Desautels.

Those taking part would pick up their finished work at Play With Clay in two weeks.
