Police point their radar guns at two Dodges and a Hyundai

Three drivers face racing charges in separate incidents

GUELPH – On Jan. 12, 2017 at approximately 2:45 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Officer was monitoring traffic on Highway 6 near Laird Road, Guelph.  

A man driving a Dodge van was observed at a speed well above the posted speed limit and was locked on radar at approximately 135 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

A traffic stop was performed and the driver could not provide proof that the vehicle was insured. 

 38-year-old Qing Wang, of Mississauga, was charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and Driving without Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Insurance Automobile Act.  He will appear in Guelph Court on Mar. 1, 2017.

CITY OF GUELPH – On Jan. 13, 2017 at approximately 3:36 a.m., a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting radar and monitoring traffic on Highway 6 near Laird Road in the City of Guelph.  

The officer observed a southbound Dodge Ram pick-up truck travelling at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at approximately 132 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

21-year-old Mitchell Bartello of Caledon has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on Mar. 1, 2017.   

His driver’s licence and vehicle were seized for a period of 7 days as per statute.

MAPLETON TOWNSHIP – On Jan. 14, 2017 at approximately 10:07 a.m., a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting radar and monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 7 near Wellington Road 10 in Mapleton Township.  

The officer observed a northbound 2016 Hyundai SSE travelling at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at approximately 109 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

49-year-old Masaki KATSUBE, of Woolwich Township, has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on Feb. 15, 2017. His driver’s licence and vehicle were seized for a period of 7 days as per statute.
