Puslinch council unanimously passed the "No Trucks" bylaw on portions of MacPhersons Lane and Watson Road at Wednesday's meeting.

PUSLINCH - Council has approved a 'no trucks' zone on portions of MacPhersons Lane and Watson Road.

At Wednesday’s council meeting, council unanimously passed the “No Trucks” bylaw, which will prohibit any transport trucks parking and passing through Watson Road between Wellington Road 34 and Wellington Road 36 as well as of MacPhersons between Highway 6 and Maddaugh Road.

Glenn Schwendinger, township CAO, informed council that there’s currently a high volume of truck use in the areas reported.

Township staff want the bylaw passed ahead of the development of the road management plan, which is set to be presented to council in the second quarter of 2022.

There are concerns that the ongoing use at MacPhersons Lane and Watson Road may cause damage to the existing infrastructure, and render unusable in the future if heavy truck use continues.

As such, township staff have recommended that these two locations be posted as “No Trucks” zone and that the bylaw designation be revisited once the road management plan is completed.

Coun. Matthew Bulmer asked the CAO whether the OPP will increase their enforcement at the proposed areas as he stated that there’s currently a “No Trucks” post in the area he lives in, but transport trucks still pass through the area.

“Yes, it’s our objective to have increased enforcement there. We’ve already had some discussion with OPP, and they did committee to additional enforcement there if it was formally adopted by council,” explained Schwendinger.

Signage is currently in stock and will be posted and implemented next week, as per the CAO.
