R.I.D.E leads to impaired charges

GUELPH-ERMAOSA TOWNSHIP – On Dec. 16, 2016 at approximately 8:09 p.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Festive R.I.D.E. Unit were conducting spot checks on Wellington Road 39 near Wellington Road 30 in Guelph-Eramosa Township. 

A 1996 Toyota entered the R.I.D.E. program and while officers were speaking with the driver an odour of alcohol was detected on her breath.

A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. She was arrested and transported to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

34-year-old Elizabeth Mccabe of Fergus has been charged with Over 80 Mgs contrary to the Criminal Code. She is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on Jan. 6, 2017.  

Her driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days as per statute.

CITY OF GUELPH – On Dec. 19, 2016 at approximately 1:16 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting R.I.D.E. spot checks on Highway 6 near College Avenue in the City of Guelph. 

A 2008 Honda entered the R.I.D.E. program and while officers were speaking with the driver the odour of alcohol was detected on his breath. 

A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. He was arrested and transported to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing where is refused to supply a proper breath sample for analysis.

24-year-old Paul Tulai of Waterloo has been charged with Refuse to Supply Breath Sample contrary to the Criminal Code. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on Jan. 20, 2017.  

His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days as per statute.
