Murray McLauchlan is the winner of 11 Juno Awards, the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement and a member of the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame. The internationally acclaimed musician discusses his life and celebrated career as part of River Run Centre’s Miijidaa Life Stories series on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 8 p.m.

The evening is loosely based on McLauchlan’s 1998 memoir, Getting Out of Here Alive. The musician will share stories from his more than three-decade career, which includes 18 albums, countless live performances and penning songs performed by artists including Kris Kristofferson and Waylon Jennings.

“A vast canon of work and one that has been part of the day-to-day soundtrack for more than one Canadian generation,” the Calgary Herald says of McLauchlan’s music.

McLauchlan began writing songs and performing during his late teens. His early career included performances at major music festivals including the Philadelphia Folk Festival, where he appeared alongside Jim Croce and John Prine, and Mariposa, where he gave up half of his time on stage so Joni Mitchell could perform. McLauchlan remains a vibrant live performer with dozens of concert appearances each year.

In Conversation with Murray McLauchlan is part of the Miijidaa Life Stories series, which features artists discussing their craft in a question-and-answer format. The evening also includes a live performance and post-show meet and greet. Audiences walk away with the story behind the artist.

The Miijidaa Life Stories series is organized by Cameron Smillie, who brings a wealth of experience in the performing arts world. He is co-founder of Live at the Hippo Pool Events Inc., which presents productions in theatres across southwestern Ontario.

Tickets to see In Conversation with Murray McLauchlan cost $35 for adults, $33 for seniors and $25 for those under 30. Everyone attending this performance must have a ticket, including infants and children. Tickets can be purchased at River Run Centre box office, 35 Woolwich St. in Guelph, by calling 519-763-3000, or online.

In Conversation with Murray McLauchlan is presented by River Run Centre as part of the Miijidaa Life Stories series. River Run Centre is funded in part by the Government of Canada and gratefully acknowledges 2019-2020 season sponsor, Richardson GMP.
