NEWS RELEASE
GRAND RIVER CONSERVATION AUTHORITY
*************************
Rivers and streams throughout the watershed are responding to widespread rainfall over the past 24-48 hours. Between 15 and 45 mm of rain has fallen since Wednesday with an additional 10-15 mm forecast for Sunday.
While no flooding is expected, recreational river users such as anglers, canoeists and kayakers should be aware of the higher flows. River users should be particularly aware of the Grand River downstream of Cambridge and the Nith River from New Hamburg to Paris. The flows are much higher than normal summer flows and could pose a hazard to recreational users.
Flows are expected to remain above normal summer levels throughout the weekend. GRCA staff will continue to monitor conditions and will update this message as necessary.
Stay Safe
The public is reminded to exercise extreme caution around all water bodies. Banks adjacent to rivers and creeks are very slippery and, when combined with fast moving water, pose a serious hazard. Parents are encouraged to keep their children and pets away from all watercourses at this time.
This message will remain in effect until Monday, May 29.
