Pedestrian reportedly struck, closing Woolwich Street (6 photos)

Incident reportedly involved a pedestrian being hit

A stretch of Woolwich Street is expected to be closed for several hours following a serious traffic incident Tuesday morning that reportedly involved a pedestrian.

Police and paramedics rushed to Woolwich Street outside the Evergreen Seniors Centre just north of Speedvale Avenue at approximately 10 a.m.

Police are releasing few details at this point but passers-by said it involved a pedestrian who was rushed to hospital.

A silver SUV with a badly damaged front end was stopped just south of the crosswalk at that location with an elderly man behind the wheel holding his head in his hands. He and his dog later exited the vehicle.

Bags, clothing and a pickleball paddle were seen laying on the ground at the scene of the incident.

Woolwich Street is closed between Speedvale and Marilyn Drive, with limited access to the north end of Woolwich from Woodlawn Road.
