Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for:
  • Guelph - Erin - Southern Wellington County

At 3:50 p.m. EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking an area of dangerous thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts up to 120 km/h. This area of severe thunderstorms is moving east at 90 km/h.

Communities in the path include:
Hamilton, Downtown Hamilton, Mississauga, Toronto, Downtown Toronto, Burlington, Stoney Creek, Brampton, Oakville, Vaughan, Newmarket, Uxbridge and Oshawa.

Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Avoid areas of the building that could be affected by falling debris such as tree limbs. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
