In September, Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities announced an $8 million sport relief fund to help sport and recreation organizations continue to deliver programming in 2020 and beyond.

As you may be aware, many community organizations have shut their doors due to the financial burden created by COVID-19, including lost revenue and increased program costs.

Shelldale Family Gateway has experienced the impact of the pandemic first-hand. We recently received confirmation that we are amongst 668 sport and recreation organizations nationally to be provided with grant support through Jumpstart’s Sport Relief Fund.

Shelldale Family Gateway will receive $12,000.

We are beyond grateful to receive this news and know how positive an impact it will have on sport and recreation organizations, and ultimately, on kids across the country.

With Jumpstart’s support, we will be able to conduct mini sport clinics for our afterschool and teen programs. This funding allows us to purchase enough equipment so that each participant can safely have their own soccer ball or basketball and thereby cut down on possible COVID related contamination.

We are also extremely pleased to announce that we have received an additional amount from Canadian Tire Jumpstart to help us rebuild after COVID-19. These funds will be directed to cleaning supplies, PPE and staff time allotted for sanitizing between sports sessions.

We would like to thank Jumpstart and say how grateful we are for this amazing grant, allowing us to re-establish our programs and to ensure our children and youth once again have the chance to play sports safely.
