Up and Running Guelph will soon be taking registration for its winter session.
The eight-week beginner running and walking programs are designed for women who have mild to moderate depression or anxiety and is open to all fitness levels. The winter session starts Jan. 15, with registration in December and early January.
A not-for-profit and volunteer-run, Up and Running was launched in September 2016 to support women in adopting exercise as a new tool for managing their mental health, says a press release.
"Our outdoor running and walking programs give participants the chance to experience first-hand the benefits of outdoor activity, and at the same time, find support from other women who understand where they’re coming from. Participants report feeling a sense of achievement, increased confidence, a change in outlook and improved mood. Many continue to run after the program ends, or return as running mentors for new participants," said co-founder Shirley Hunt in the release.
