Police actions related to a person's death late last month near Kenilworth are being probed by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU).

The watchdog agency confirmed its involvement in the case on Friday, six days after the Nov. 26 incident.

Preliminary information released by the SIU indicates police responded to a Concession Road 7 residence at about 10 p.m. after receiving a report of a man who lived there causing damage inside.

Police set up a perimeter around the home and made several attempts to contact the man. After several hours, officers entered the home and found a 47-year-old man deceased in the bathroom.

In a Nov. 28 news release, Wellington County OPP stated officers responded to a reported disturbance at a Concession 7 residence, near Kenilworth at about 10:15 p.m.

There, a person in their 40s was pronounced dead.

Though a “large police presence” was noted in the area and a local road was closed until about 9 a.m. the next day, the incident was considered isolated.

There was no mention in that news release of the SIU being involved.

The SIU is an independent agency that investigates police incidents involving serious injuries, allegations of sexual assault, the use of firearms at people and matters involving death.
