SPECIAL INVESTIGATIONS UNIT

The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 31-year-old man this afternoon in Fergus.
Preliminary information suggests the following:
- At approximately 11 a.m. Aug. 15, 2021, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call for a domestic disturbance at a residence on Belsyde Avenue East.
- OPP responded and negotiated with a man.
- At 1:38 p.m., there was an interaction with OPP officers and the man. OPP discharged a firearm and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
- An OPP officer has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Four investigators and three forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.
