Sled dogs willing, Mother Nature not so much

Lack of snow leads to cancellation of event for second time
20160308 DOG SLED

The dog sled races scheduled for this weekend at Guelph Lake Conservation area have been cancelled.

This week's warm weather has led to the cancellation of the event for the second time. It was originally supposed to happen in February but there was no snow then either.

Organizers will try again next year and posted an announcement on their web site delivering the bad news.

"It is with great regret that due to lack of snow on the trails at the Guelph Lake Conservation Area and the upcoming high temperatures this week, the race committee has decided to cancel the sled dog event that had been rescheduled for the 12th and 13th of March 2016.

"The committee would like to express their thanks to all sponsors, volunteers and teams for their support of this event and know that many will be disappointed. The next Guelph Lake Sled Dog Race will be held on 25 & 26th February, 2017. Mark your calendar and hope to see you next year!"
