Snow sculptures to converge on former reformatory lands

Yorklands Green Hub holding February and March draws for snowy creations

As the final couple months of winter settle in, Guelph residents are being encouraged to get outside and show off their snowy creation talents.

Yorklands Green Hub is hosting The Snow Sculpture Challenge at the former Guelph reformatory lands on York Road.

“It is the perfect place for quiet walks outdoors with a wide driveway, no traffic, with trails and trees and many beautiful heritage stone features built by the past inmates at the historic Ontario Reformatory,” states a news release. “When it snows, the fun can be amplified by making snow sculptures.”

All submissions made in February will be entered into a draw to win a $25 gift certificate for Wild Birds Unlimited, The Bookshelf or Wyndham Art Supplies. Another draw will be held for March entries.

Both draws take place on the last day of the month.

There is no entry fee.

To enter the draw, take a photo of your snow sculpture on or in front of one of the many stone features on the property and submit the photo to [email protected].

Yorklands Green Hub, a non-profit organization, is calling for part of the provincially owned property to be turned into an interactive, sustainable environment centre with community programming, along with preservation of streams, ponds, meadows and trails.
