Guelph General Hospital is once again allowing one designated essential visitor per admitted patient per hospital stay now that restrictions have been loosed following the local health unit's change from the Red to Orange.

Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph moved into Orange on Monday. Under the former Red category, one designated essential visitor was allowed per admitted patient, but only under certain conditions.

Those conditions included: terminally ill patients, critically ill patients, emergency patients, support person for woman in labour`and for paediatric patients under the age of 18, among others.

“As Public Health guidelines change, so does the hospital’s visitor restrictions," said Perry Hagerman, senior communications specialist by email on Tuesday. "For those planning on visiting, please check the hospital’s web site first for the latest information. If you’re still unsure whether or not you can visit, please call the hospital.”

If the local health unit moves into Yellow in the near future each admitted patient will be allowed one designated essential visitor per admitted patient per day and under Green two designated essential visitors per patient per day who each must visit at different times will be allowed.
